Some Motivating Tips

1. Tell other (supportive) people about your goal (the operative word is supportive; often friends or family may undermine you). Don't forget jealousy has been around since Cain and Able. For example, tell them "I'm going to learn to speak Spanish by the year 2000."

2. Read biographies or autobiographies of people who have succeeded in your goal area. Example: Margaret Mitchell's biography if you are a woman writer.

3. Rid yourself of toxic people. Being around negative people has a strong dampening effect on motivation. If you can't totally avoid these people, at least learn to counteract their behaviors. Example: Change the subject when they're on a negative tirade.
