Are you a candidate for coaching?
1. Are you emotionally and psychologically ready? This means if you have a psychiatric or emotional problem you need to care for that separately. Coaching/mentoring is not a substitute for psychological counseling. Also, for the best results, you need to be emotionally fit. Coaching does not exclude people who have these challenges but, the person needs to see a mental health professional and agree that they are ready and stable.
2. Be sure you are entering into the relationship for your goals and personal growth. If you are not personally motivated, the results will not be optional.
3. Are you willing to commit to this endeavor? It is going to require time, money, and effort.
4. Are you willing to give someone (the coach) permission to guide, instruct, or in
some cases, prod you toward your goal?
Tips on choosing your coach
1. Do they listen to your goals? Coaching often fails because the coach is operating with his/her goals or expectations rather than yours.
2. Do they have training and/or experience? (Anyone can be a coach/trainer since there are no licensing boards or formal controls, its important to check out the credentials of the person).
3. Is the experience rewarding? Do you feel positive about the initial contact
and first session?
